You can't just change your IP address with an application (at least, the public one assigned to you by your ISP which game servers see). But there are tricks to change it. These may or may not work, and only apply to dynamic ips (which are what most residential internet users have anyway, unless you pay more for a static IP that doesn't change):

- For DSL, resetting your modem usually works. If not, try leaving it off for a few minutes before powering it back on again.
- For Cable, change the MAC address of the device attached directly to the modem. So if it was a router, you need to have the ability to change the MAC address on the WAN port of that router. If your PC is connected directly to the cable modem, you need to change it within your operating system. Here is a tutorial to do that within the OS itself, however this tutorial is pointless if you're using a router in between as only the router will see your changed mac address... so it depends on your setup.

Good luck

I think SomaFM wrote quite long tutorial somewhere here how modems works.
anyways some time ago i wrote a simple tutorial on how to change IPs and even linked to Soma's topic.
-How to change external IP-
I guess this will help you out if Soma's post didn't help you already.

Old thread. May as well post it for archival purposes.

1. Open CMD.
2. Type ipconfig /renew
3. ????
4. Well, you get a new IP I guess. Also, profit.

obviously because as usual there is a lack of details about the type of connection... blah the usual magical things.

the "ipconfig /renew" is nothing else than the request of a new IP (a new free IP) to the dhcp server.
if the situation is a computer or a series of computers behind a router (real router) then the router that runs its own dhcp server will assign a new LOCAL ip to the computer but the internet IP (assigned to the router) will be untouched.

so remember ever to make a big difference between local IPs (10.x.x.x or 192.x.x.x) and internet IPs.
for example in the case of an adsl connection with a public IP address and a direct connection with the adsl device (pppoe or pppoa driver running on the computer so the public IP is assigned directly to the computer) it's even enough to stop the connection for one minutes and restart it without forcing the re-request of a new IP if doesn't work in that case.

exists also the case of WAN IPs when the ISP doesn't give a public IP but only one in its internal network but in that case is necessary to know if the routes used by the ISP will assign a new exit IP if the WAN IP changes or not.

hope this clarifies a bit this argument.
