uhmmm on google I have found no references about this problem although it's not only very simple but also a joke to find, that's why I think it's already known.

practically the problem is in the "printentities" in-game command used in the Call of Duty series (from 2 to 5) that other than being useless takes also many resources of the servers causing a strong lag and maybe also the disconnection of the other clients due to the generated timeout.

the following is a quick script made on the fly for testing the problem:

set lagtest "printentities ; wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait ; vstr lagtest"
vstr lagtest
so:
- call it lagtest.cfg
- place it in the "main" folder of the game
- join the server to test
- execute it with: /exec lagtest

if the client shows an overflow message try to add other "wait" commands there

I repeat, I'm sure this is a known problem although without references on internet so let me know

I tested it, but my server holds up just fine, like nothing happened =/

uhmmm I have checked CoD1 and CoDUO and they don't have this command so I must exclude it (my fault not having tested them before), so it goes from CoD2.

I made the test on CoD4 1.7 for Windows.
what game/version/platform you tested?

a friend of mine has just tested CoD2 (that contains the printentities command) but the test failed with the freezing of the server without effects on the server and other players.

uhmmm maybe only cod4 is affected by the problem?
the lag on CoD4 is caused by the long output of the "printentities" command that is showed directly on the server's console, that's the cause of the lag on this game

seems like cod4 isn't affected too, or maybe it is, but not enought to affect the server performance
