Hello all.

Once again, I come to you with a question about CoD4 .cfg file grabber. Also known as, q3dirtrav.

I got that all working, now I just need a way to find out the .cfg files name. I know it is in the /main/ folder of the CoD4 folder, but I just need a way to find out the exact name of the .cfg file inside there.

Any ideas?

simple, you can't guess a filename chosen by someone else

So there is no program that you can use to get the name of the .cfg file for the selected server?

@nexus7 you do not understand english ?

ok well Luigi is wrong actually, but it is his english. i understand what he tried to say. let me explain:

1. you CAN guess the filename, if filename is like "alienblahdohduh.cfg" and you start guessing the names and guess it, then its guessed.
2. but what Luigi meant, is that there is no way/tool to find out what the file is called.

only way is to guess randomly, which takes years if not millenniums.

also, most likely it will be server.cfg or config.cfg (at least i have server.cfg...)

Probably already posted, but common names are

admin.cfg
server.cfg
config.cfg
dedicated.cfg
dedicated_mp.cfg
server_mp.cfg
config_mp.cfg
something.cfg

Otherwise, you're just gonna have to guess =\

Here's just an extra tip, this can help sometimes.

Download the qconsole.log and go to the very to pof the first page to see which config files are being executed, this can allow you to find the config's name at the start, I tested this on a server a while back.

Note it only works if the server has a qconsole.log

im guessing he did not want to guess a default config name, obviously he messed up somebody's server and they changed the config to something else, like blahdohgetlost.cfg

Since we are not able to check the server content, files and folders. Are we able to find out what the configuration file/files takes call of duty 4 when connecting to the server by default and from what directory? As we know, call of duty 4 takes a configuration file to set server options for the player and then deleting it imidiatley.

No? lol. I can't really explain all of that technical etc but I'll give you something -

- Configurations are just the way a server can load it's different variables and settings, most are serversided (like rconpassword) so they cannot be read or accessed. The only way to get access to the actual variable is if you have control of the server (via rcon or you're running the server) There is no way to see the .cfg because as a security thing, CoD4 removes it from /sv_refrencedpaksnames. Q3console.log would be helpful if logfile was set to 2 because it gives plenty of information otherwise not shown serverside, like which custom config cod4 automatically runs. From there you could find the name of the config and download it then.

''As we know, call of duty 4 takes a configuration file to set server options for the player and then deleting it imidiatley.''

Incorrect. Everything that relates to security stuff is done serverside.

Ok. I understand.

There is another question. What about Punk Buster? I cannot download any .cfg from my serwer when PB is on. Perhaps he have his own directory with .cfg? But where and how to make it working?

I say you can do, Luigi and did the more difficult and I do not think this can not be done, any computer can.

I have read a forum here trying to do too, but he wants to do is try every now and then a file name but if there is no use those files you see another code.

Excuse my English :S
