if someone has ideas about new tools to create or programs/games to test, this is the right place.
Post your idea/input and I can see if they are worthy to be realized or can lead to a research/project in future.
And don't worry if the idea could look stupid at a first look, this is just for experimenting.

well my friend has one idea..about game Last Chaos. its a MMO.
would be nice to have some kind of a flooder...chat, join/leave ...etc.

i havent even tested anything on it .. to see if it uses challenge response or not...if it can be flooded with packets or not ..etc.
just used macromaker to flood chat, but thts weak.

theres also 2 versions (or more). only USA version is good. other versions use some weak server (only few) and has bugs too (time out and such).
so if u going to check it then make sure you have USA version.

i would say world of warcraft cuz it would be sweet but there is nothing you can do to that game. Only 2 people decrypted the packets, ever. Only thing that can be done to that game to achieve a small level of exploitation is data file manipulation (model editing) and memory editing.

come on, remove all the centralized networks.
For example in these days I had in mind to create a program which counts how much triangles are in a figure, like those stupids games in TV.
Naturally was only an idea since I have found no solution to recognize the lines/points from an image.

about those lines, points ...etc.
im quite sure ive seen a program that can scan a handwrote letter into pc and then show it as text (pc format, editable).

if thts possible then it should also be possible. if u r intrested i can find it again..i was looking for some text tools and found it somewhere..

the new idea which I'm realizing is a decoder of morse codes.
for the moment I have adopted an easy solution which works with clean files but naturally it's not the best with files which have a lot of noise.
Probably I will release a beta today or max tomorrow

ih ih ih 8-)

CoD 4 uses the Quake 3 engine so there is no much fun finding bugs in it (all the known bugs should have fixed, and due to the open source nature of the engine and the luckily the number of other possible bugs is very limited or near to zero).
So if you remove the engine bugs remain only the game bugs (those caused by specific commands of cod4, missing animations and so on) which are not very interesting... oh and then I don't have the game 8-)

I noticed the stats packet on CoD4 which leads to a message on the server "Received stats packet from unknown remote client 192.168.0.1", if someone wants to test the effects of this thing on a server it's enough to download the attached file and then using:

udpsz -f cod4stats.txt -l 10 SERVER 28960 -1

I think this doesn't produce effects but trying it will solve any doubts.

ok , i dont know if this is the right topic for this but,
Today i was on a jka server, and i saw a player that had a model with no feet, it was a standard model, alora , but its feet were invisible, i wasnt the only one that didnt see his feet.
So , my question, is it a bug of some kind?, like changing your model in a special way or something. But the most important question is , can it be exploited in some way so your entiere body would be invisible?

this is very strange, anyway this is not the right thread (many people will not notice it).
you could copy and paste that same question in a new thread in the Research section.

anyway in my opinion it's somethine like a special color because as far as I know you can change only the color to your character, anyway we can continue in the new thread you will create

yes, from CoD1 to CoD4 (with some small modifications like additional commands in this recent game)

yes, as far as I know, the consoles use the same engines of the PC version.
This is needed because the contents can't be rewritten or repacked for another engine all the times.

Is possible that something changes in the network packets probably due to the usage of an additional layer or encryption inserted by the console (for example Unreal Championship uses the Unreal engine but the packets of Xbox are different than those of PC)

Oh, about CoD4, I have just released an advisory about an interesting vulnerability in it

yeah but usually console games have other 'engines' added into that engine
like the havok engine (http://www.havok.com/) or the new(ish) euphoria engine (http://www.naturalmotion.com/euphoria.htm)
i dont think havok or natural motion have PC versions of it

so, in theory, (for example) the PC's CoD4 and the 360's CoD4 would have the same bugs.
and are u sure cod4 is q3? because i don think the q3 can use as much graphics like it has o_o
no one is really given me a full explanation of an 'engine' anyway, i thought they were limited on what they can do

game converter would be nice .. like from console to pc, but i guess its quite impossible :(

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_engine
as far as i understand ..
like OS is to software
the game engine is to games
think its a good comparison :)

yes evan it's just the q3 one, naturally this time they have not just taken and used the engine but have made some deep modifications to the esthetical part of the game.

just got idea from one other topic...maybe you should make a info tool that simply shows info about game servers. so you dont need game or anything .. you can put in ip and port and get the server info. .. like for as much games as possible. and maybe mount all exploits into it too. so its possible to crash/flood servers with it too.

I think gigi's poc are not supposed to help lamers to crash game servers.

yeah but look here:
http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/872/872836p1.html
this ign writer just calls it "Call of Duty engine"

also, i googled it.
it says the original call of duty is run on the quake engine.
wikipedia tells me that cod4 uses the "proprietary" engine.
wikipedia also tells me that cod2 has used an engine developed by infinity ward.
tweakguides.com has told me something that explains it more:
http://www.tweakguides.com/COD2_1.html wrote:
Infinity Ward have moved away from the Quake engine they used for the first Call of Duty, and have coded a new engine (borrowing a range of elements from the Doom 3 engine) for Call of Duty 2. This engine appears to deliver the goods and when run at maximum eye candy really does look as good, if not better, than the Doom 3 engine.

so i think the only time they used a 'third-party' engine is with the original call of duty... call of duty 2 and 4 use infinity ward's engine

CoD2 suffers of the same vulnerabilities of CoD1, in fact many users get angry for this fact which proved that the core of the "new engine" in reality was the old one.
Although they call it CoD engine doesn't mean it's not based on an old one, as already said their main focus is naturally the esthetical part (graphics, audio and so on) but the network core is just the old Quake 3 one, in fact q3fill works perfectly with it.

This is exactly the same story of the Half-Life engine, it has not been written from scratch but is a deep modification of the Quake 1 engine.

well not sure if this thread is still alive but there was this RTS game, Warzone 2100 which had its source code release under free EULA or something like that, it would be cool to have that source code about 24MB, of this RTS with 3D engine looked up, it would be cool to have a custom version with some modern successfull RTS rules.

Would love to include things into this one to increase the detail of the enviroment, AI, and some cool features from other RTS like Dark Reign path system, morph option, or starcraft unit double use like the terran tank/turret thing.

Endless posibilities on an already working 3d engine.

I noticed there are other group which are trying to deliver an updated version of the game here http://wz2100.net/, but they are not improving the game per se too much, only fixing old game errors while updating visual engine to look the same as the one before but using openGL and openAL, which is a nice feature, but still needs some creative mind in the work. So this will be a great code to grab and reuse into a cool RTS. (by the way, the update system on this game is awsome, so is the idea of creating you own unis from individual parts).

So it would be cool to start with a better user interfase, and work your way to a overall better RTS game.

I found some bugs in that game in the past, anyway my projects are usually short term projects. a RTS is definitely out of my projects 8-)

I would like to see some stuff related to Steam, such as a program that checks passwords. You have a little blurb on your website about Steam passwords using AES, but that's about it. You should work on an actual login simulation :P

And I know I constantly bug you about it luigi, but you should see if you can figure out the solution for a cd-key > punkbuster guid for Battlefield 2. I know you said you don't have the game, but it's fairly cheap nowadays. You might also be able to download a copy via bittorent ;)

Lastly, anything related to MMOs is always interesting (world of warcraft, guild wars, etc.)
