oh fantastic now I casually discovered that the SSLv23_method method no longer works in OpenSSL 1.0.0.

this method is a compatible way to allow a client to join automatically a SSLv2 or SSLv3 server without knowing the exact version (because both are used), so a very good thing that indeed is used as default solution by almost any program.

the bad thing is that while I was testing one thing with my "ealist" tool it returned an error while connecting to a SSLv3 server using this particular method, so I needed to specify the SSLv3_method for making it working again.
tested on both Windows and Linux with same effect, blah

in the changelog is not clear what should have been the cause of this loss of compatibility, anyway it's a big trouble.
note that mine is a minimalistic client so without non-standard stuff that could give problems.
