Hi again,

This game uses some kind of encryption in .dat archives.

Here is one of them: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=IT82WNBG

Perhaps you could work your magic please, Luigi? :)

the file is no longer available, have you tried to propose the project on xentax first?

for anyone else interested: the file seems to use a charset/substitution algorithm or something similar because both xor and rot don't return "readable" results

Hi Luigi, i know this is an old topic but did you get anywhere beyond the above post on those DAT files? Here is one of about 4Mb if needed:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=AEMHI7AL

Also found someone who did manage to get access:

Quote:
Not so much encryption but use of a generic filetype for storing folders & files. I've got one program that can open them and read it as plain english - most files anyways - but it can't make changes.

Thanks for all you do!!

just done:
http://aluigi.org/papers/bms/shattered_horizon.bms

the only problem is that it's a bit slow because quickbms is not good for the byte-per-byte operations but after all the extraction is done one time in the life so no trouble :)

Hi Luigi great progress on this files, but i ran into some problems.

1) The script can't handle big files (i think around 60MB is the limit), i tried 2 versions (and the x64 beta) all of them crash. The file in question is 124MB.

The output is:

while with the older versions, the program crashed because of malloc().

2) There are 3 files, that the script doesn't recognize, can you check up on them?

Code:

1)
can you upload the first 10 megabytes of this file?
here I have the dedicated server only

2)
what you mean exactly?
the names are taken from the same file

then, what's the maximum size of these archives?

1) This are the first 10MB of the file mentioned above (data4410.dat - 124MB total):

Code:
http://bit.ly/fTwXAq

2) This 3 files are in "extra" folder and i think they use different encryption, but still they are .dat files. All 3 of them are uploaded and the link is in the previous post. This are the only 3 files that the script can't recognize.

And one last question, after the extraction the .dds textures are somehow different and most of them cannot be read through a DDS viewers, did you experienced problem with your test?

and now a double good news:
- added support for this file (it had an additional byte that broke the format... mah)
- improved the speed, now the extraction is immediate :)

the link to the script 0.2 is ever the same:

Sorry for the late response, thanks for the new version, now unpacks almost all of the files. Thanks once again Luigi, you're great.
