hi there,

yesterday someone crashed our gameservers.
now i search how he do this and a way to fix.

i have copy all from the gameserver to my local debian server BECAUSE i can crash my local server with q3infoboom.exe ... but not the net servers.

i use the sof2ded to start the servers. dunno what gameservers.com use to start .. think the same.

but if i cant crash the net server with the q3infoboom .. then they must use an other think to crash it and i dont know how. we found only a crazy string in the logfiles that the players says and then the server was gone.

i found some fixes here .. but i cant compile (dunno know how realy but gcc is installed)

if beg u all for help .. i dont know what i can do to fix it

for being 100% sure that your server is enough safe from the q3infoboom vulnerability remember EVER to test it first with the "normal" "q3infoboom SERVER PORT" and then with "q3infoboom -q getstatus SERVER PORT"

for the fixes, I think you refer to q3infofix_linux.lpatch, right?
in that case you don't need to compile stuff because you can use lpatch on your local computer and then uploading the patched executable (sof2ded) on the remote server.
in any case in the lpatch.zip package there is also a pre-compiled executable for linux x86: lpatch.x86

thx for the fast answer.
info .. its a sof2ded 1.0.2 .. cant find a 1.0.3 version in the internet :(

great results on my local server:
q3infoboom.exe -q getstatus SERVER PORT ... ALL ok .. and i dont get any infos or status of the servers with it .. look like the same without -q *****
q3infoboom.exe SERVER PORT ... server crash

---
after fix the sof2ded
ALL ok .. with and without options

----
but i cant crash the net servers with this tool .. so someone need to use an other tool to crash it.
do u have an other too for testing the server for security hols??

thx

you should check the log of the server because it could show something useful in the last lines.

anyway in my opinion the vulnerability exploited versus your server could be the sof2guidboom one.
a patch for both windows and linux executable is available here:

http://aluigi.org/patches/sof2guidfix.lpatch

i short it :D

---
i see only:
------- BotLib Initialization -------
^1Error: counldn't load weapons.c
^1Fatal: couldn't load the weapon config

but thats normal .. that do i see always

---
http://aluigi.org/poc/sof2guidboom.zip
antivirus software says: TR/Expl.Aluigi.BV

and the test was ok (local and net)

are you sure you don't use mods?
if you use old versions of rocmod and similar you are vulnerable to some bugs.

ops I totally missed it :)

anyway rocmod is no longer supported but being open source allows anyone to fix it.
if you search "rocmod fix" (without ") on a search engine you can find exactly what you need.
the only downside is that often these fixes are closed source (although rocmod is open source) and without an official homepage... so if you trust them use them.

I coded a fix for this a long time ago ... i will post it to the community so u are not forced to use other peoples mods that are untrusted and full of backdoors like XSMOD.

The Problem.

say @%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%@%

Cant someone just put the patches on one page here? so we dont have to look our asses of to find it?

Still after all the patches are on the server my server still crashes.
All exploits from here sof2boom sof2guidboom q3infoboom are tested and they all blocked
Still my sof2server crashes from outside.
So there must be another thing i dint try yet.

Plz help me out im paying for a server wich crashes every day 40 times.
I have been trying to get help for over a year now.
I just dont wanna pay for it i payed enough for the server and game.
Btw if noone helps the game will die
I am a noob when it comes to this stuff but i got all poc's working out my own.

So how do they crash it, if they cant use, sof2boom, sof2guidboom, q3infoboom?

you have not specified the version of your server (logically it should be the latest 1.03 or 1.02a but still exist *insert an offense here* who use old versions).
you have not specified if you use a mod on it and what mod and what version (also here the rule is to use ever the latest version)
you have not specified what's the exact effect, if it's a crash you need to specify in what conditions it happens or if some events happen before it (maybe someone calls a vote or says something) or any other detail
you have not specified the platform on which you run the server: windows or linux

if the server is 1.03/1.02a and you have applied all the known unofficial fixes and you have tested it with all the known proof-of-concepts (remember to use the -q getstatus option with q3infoboom!) then the cause must be searched in the mod (if you use one obviously)

advertising (of any type) is not allowed on this forum.
then would be interesting to know why you modified your previous post (that one with the source code patch), I mean if there were errors you wanted to fix or things to improve or what (I have the pre-edit version saved).

Aluigi, you know me, we talked before, i was |GoDz|Excellent.
We mailed about a year ago with the same problem.

The topic says:
SoF2 Linux rocmod problems <<-- so its says sof2 linux rocmod 2.1c with the same bots heret!c has but hes not talking
Its a gameserver wich is payed for. Its a 1.02 on linux. (RENTED FROM GAMESERVERS)

So its sof2 1.02 linux running rocmod 2.1c with bots.
All the tests i did with your tools i mentioned comeup negatif.
So the sof2boom sof2guidboom and q3infoboom dont work on it.

I tryed to find your patches here but i cant seem to find em.

The problem is:
It crashes because someone from the outside uses a tool to crash it.
I know the @.@.@.@. works and still crashes it but then you need to be in the server.
Then i can read ip and ban it.
That only works temp because they have dynamic ips.
I know cubosmod will solve that problem because it shows the txt in server.
So then i would know the one who did it.
Again i can ban that.

The way they do it, it just crashes with this error:
This looks like they just typed quit on the rcon.

==== ShutdownGame ====
ShutdownGame:
------------------------------------------------------------
^1Error: BotLibShutdown: bot library used before being setup
---------------------------
Shutting down cmShaderTable .....

About the rcon its hard typed written in cmdline, but its a diffrent one from the server.cfg
I did that too fool any rcon password tool.

This is what gameservers says:

We are intimately familiar with the proof of concepts available on the aluigi site you referenced.
Any available corrections have already been applied. < so there all applied.

? <<Isnt there a option you can block all ips to the server wich are not connected?>>

Unfortunately, that is not a viable option.

irc.gamesurge.net #gameservers

PS @HERET!C
Thx to heret!c for his great no help. You got my email over a year now and never respond to anything i asked.
The only thing you did, was selling us a server, wich never worked and our money was gone.
So no thx to you and plz stop responding to this.
Aluigi and friends will help us, i dont need your heret!c tool, wich contains a backdoor.
I know you want, total control, because your a control freak, i just want my server to work, without crashes.

the fact is that nothing is changed from the 16 Sep 2009: rocmod is bugged and nobody seems to be interested (probably due to THEIR interests) in continuing its development and personally I'm absolutely not interested at all (I have even never played sof2, like almost all the games that I have tested)

having tested all the known public vulnerabilities, like those found by me, means that for sure the problem is not one of them so this is good.

while after watching the shutdown message you receive I have some doubts:
isn't possible that it's just a bug and not a security bug exploited by someone externally?
I mean a problem which happens in some conditions not caused intentionally by an attacker, so a normal game bug.

I tell you that because after searching that error on google I have seen various people with the same problem and moreover on various games (so NOT only sof2).
go on google and search for "BotLibShutdown: bot library used before being setup" (with " included), maybe it can be useful (in case you have not searched it yet, obviously)

To Aluigi:

I do apologize for violating your forums terms of services and it will not happen again.
The reason i edited my original post was as you can see i deleted the part where i stated it was messing up chat and server message parsing
I recently fixed that problem so i updated the post with the "Up to Date" code that does not mess up server parsing and deleted the portion of
the post that told everyone about the bug in the code.

To Excellent:

1st. dont be a asshole mr Godz Excellent . Your server is only online cause i allow it to be, regardless of what patch you have.
2nd. learn how to work a server before renting it , as nobody can be your handicap teacher... Not even gameservers.com.
3rd. I don't offer my mod to no one, i was simply stating i can secure your sof2 installation .. which i obviously wont be doing now,
if anything i will be the reason your fail sauce server stays empty :>.

As you can see it shows that error all the time a map changes.
But all the time keeps running.
Its when this heretic guy uses his crashtool we get problems.

@ heretic
Leave this site if you wont share info.
I know you r the one, crashing other servers to get traffic on yours.

As he stated above
"Your server is only online cause i allow it to be, regardless of what patch you have."
And
"i will be the reason your fail sauce server stays empty"

Wich in my eyes is abuse of this or any website.
Please aluigi let him talk dirty (i kinda like it) hes digging his own grve here.
Ill copy this and put it on every forum of sof2 i can find.

Ps so do i have to look any further at this botlib or is it a failsave?

Thx for the effort to help out.
I hope you will help out as this game is dying because of the heretic people.

Don't blame me cause you are a newb server administrator .. you can only blame your self for that.

The reason your server still crashes is prolly due to your lack of reading the well written instructions
provided in the patch that aluigi made, Please check your own back door before proceeding onto others.

Next time send a pm to spill your gutz.

You crash servers not me, btw i would love to see you work instead of sittting at home parasiting on workingpeople, and asking for donations to keep your gayserver running.
Atleast i pay it from my own money.
Besides who want to play in your gay server anyway most of them are on pbbanlist.
Then again, i never asked you for anything.
I DONT NEED YOU OR YOUR GAYBACKDOORPATCH

So to stay on the topic

Can someone besides this asshole help out?

Botlib is not the isseu because it says that each mapchange.
see above consoledump

About the patch and reading.
I aint gameservers and i can only use ftp or webbased thing.
In ftp i cant see the sof2ded or any file related.
So i cant patch anything, i have to ask them to patch it.
Also im not on linux never was, so there is nothing to patch only for winxp.

I pay my server bill each month without problem .. I simply request donations to help save me money.
You are saying no body wants to play on my server but at the same time you speak this.

My server = Full

Your Server = Empty

It does not require hacking another mans server to get traffic, it is all about how you administrate your
gaming server, which your obviously fail miserably at.

I own a Air conditioning and heating business, So i know all about working .. do not worry about that,
as i stated in my previous post .. Please check your own back door before proceeding onto others.
Also ... know what you are actually talking about before even speaking.

@both
please continue your discussions privately

this is a personal forum about stuff, research and anything else created/about me so this thread was already off-topic from the beginning and now it's out of anything completely
